Chief Secretary instructed to make the portal simple and bi-lingual

On Offing: Unified online Portal for Electricity Services

Bhubaneswar:  In another step towards implementation of 5T framework, Unified online portal for electricity services has been made ready under the initiatives of Energy department. This was known from a high level review meeting held on digital mode under Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Asit Tripathy from  Lokseba Bhawan wherein Principal Secretary Energy Sri Nikunja Bihari Dhal outlined    necessity   of the portal from the view points of timely service delivery and good governance.

Reviewing different contours of the portal, Chief Secretary Sri Tripathy directed the department to “make it more user friendly with bi-lingual applications for the common citizen”. The department was asked to develop a mobile app so that the citizens could access the services through their own mobile. Sri Tripathy directed all  DISCOMs to make their service delivery system ready to operate through this common portal.

Principal Secretary Sri Dhal apprised, “as of now all DISCOMs are following different processes  for new service connection. They are having different charges for this service.  The grievance redressal systems of the DISCOMs are also different from each other.  The common portal will resolve all these issues. The new consumers will get new power connection within specified time line in all areas of the State irrespective of the DISCOM’s area of operation”.

Review showed that the portal with its standardized process and application form would facilitate new service connection to the domestic and micro business enterprises ( up to 5 KW) within 48 hours where electrical infrastructure is available. Besides, the portal would have proper escalation matrix for timely service with SMS facility both to the applicant and the concerned DISCOM official at each stage of the work.  It would also provide for online submission of application, issue of contract demand, bill payment, registration of consumer grievance and their redressal. Consumers would have option to pay the fees both through online and offline mode. The portal would have both Odia and English scripts.

Among others, Principal Secretary Energy Sri N.B.Dhal, Chairman GRIDCO Sri Sourabh Garg, Director Finance GRIDCO Sri Gagan Swain, Senior GM OPTCL Sri Priyadarshi Das Patra  participated in discussions.
